The Artist, Jan Ford
Born to the serene life of a small Ohio farm surrounded by beautiful flowers and bountiful gardens, Jan Ford recounts her youth through lyrical re-creations of those familiar subjects. Jan's array of artwork includes still life filled with flowers, antiques and lace; each one invokes different musical moods as the floral forms conduct their own song. In the same melodic way, Jan paints a variety of other subjects such as local farmers' markets, a lone crab basket, or a fragile bird's nest.
A Virginia resident since 1971, her formal art education at Ohio State University led to the medium of watercolor. Since her career began 27 years ago, Jan has established a reputation for her excellent handling of the medium with special interest taken to beautiful color development. Her watercolors sing with color clarity and brilliance, always rich and luminous. Jan's work has been published, in the book BEST OF WATERCOLOR PAINTING, Rockport Publishing, Inc., and in American Artist Magazine (August 1999). Southeastern Framer Magazine featured Jan's work on a cover and in two articles in 2001.
